Telstra reveals plans for third UK data centre

September 8, 2017

Telstra has announced plans to open its third UK data centre in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Australian telecoms operator said the multi-million pound facility will support its network operations in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas.

Additional capacity is required to meet the demands of enterprise customers upgrading to new IT technologies including virtualisation and software-as-a-service, Telstra said.

The Woking-based 10,000 square-feet data centre will also provide managed hosting services and disaster recovery services alongside Telstra’s other UK data centres in London and Cambridge.

The company said it chose to place its data centres in the UK because the country is “an operational focal point for most global enterprise companies”.

“We offer a unique combination of first-class hosting facilities, international scale and global connectivity to provide a superior experience in managed network solutions,” said David Thodey, Telstra chief executive.
